1. Neapolitan Pizza

Most of you probably know and eat pizza. But we cannot make an Italian Food List without Neapolitan Pizza. First of all, we would like to introduce you to history; Pizza, with the combination of mozzarella cheese and tomato, was indispensable for the poor Italian people. The story of its worldwide fame began in 1889 when Queen Margherita tasted the pizza decorated with mozzarella cheese, tomato, and basil. 2. Pasta

When we think of Italy, we think of pasta, right? There are many different versions of pasta; Spaghetti Carbonara, Boscaiola, Four Cheese Ravioli, Cacio e Pepe and others.

There are records that Marco Polo brought with him information about Spaghetti and its preparation when he returned to Italy after his visit to China in 1292. But we don't know where it came from in the first place.

3. Lasagna

Ossobuco, a popular dish from Lombardy, is a rustic veal. It is made by cooking cross-cut veal shanks in a broth with white wine, bay leaf, cinnamon, and gremolata sauce. The modern version is more popular, and the recipe includes tomatoes, carrots, celery, and onions.

5. Tiramisu

According to a recent story, a pastry chef named Carminantonio Lannaccone immigrated to Milan and opened a restaurant called "Piedigrotta" in Treviso. To make his name known, he decided to prepare a dessert based on the daily tastes of the region and started experimenting with combining coffee, creamy mascarpone, egg, and catnip biscuits. He found the tiramisu!

6. Torrone

Torrone has a different origin than the other foods we mentioned.

The modern toffee may have been derived from the Spanish recipe for the Turron dessert or from an ancient Greek recipe, perhaps an Ancient Roman treat. The most popular origin story dates back to 1441 in Cremona, as a dessert created for the marriage of the Duke and Duchess of Milan, Francesco Sforza and Bianca Maria Visconti.
